History
After years of debating I finally took the plunge and purchased what I consider the ultimate long distance adventure bike.
September 2007: Purchased this black beauty from Badlands ATV/MC of Las Cruces, NM. After completing a 600 mile break in, the bike was stripped down and farkled appropriately. Did my first dirt riding in NM, complete with some deep mudding. Odometer Reading: 859 mi.
October 2007: Slowly but surely the KTM parts have begun to roll in. Made several trips to the Gila National Forest and Cloudcroft, NM. Already smoked up the first of many rear tires. The 530 arrived to provide a little hard core dirt riding relief. Odometer Reading: 2065 mi
November 2007: Wings Exhaust finally arrived. Valve adjustment how-to completed. Surgery has me laid up for most of the month however. Now if only those pesky Gobi’s would show up.
December 2007: Luggage has arrived and I've begun to discover the insane performance that this bike has to offer.
January 2008: It's an adventure bike, no it's a dirtbike, no it's an adventure bike. The bipolar traits of this machine emerge as I push it down terrain that would challenge the mighty DRZ.
February 2008: Preparation for a Mexico trip has begun. Odometer Reading 3206 mi
March 2008: The 990 experiences its first major stumble as the KTM Factory reglected to tighten a clutch bolt causing a catastrophic failure on the eastern shore of southern Baja. Surprisingly after several oil changes the beast is able to soldier on, returning me to home safetly. Unfortunately the engine requires a complete rebuild, under warranty of course, which provides downtime for some upgrades. 10.4" travel 990S suspension is also added. 12 gallon Aqualine tanks, oversize crash bars, a Rekluse Z-Start pro auto clutch, and a clear CJ Racer clutch cover are on order. Odometer Reading 5,150 mi
